CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Mayor Edwin Santiago on Saturday said that the city is all set for Monday's barangay elections.
Hundreds of re-electionists and newcomers are vying for village chiefs and seats in the barangay councils of the San Fernando’s 35 barangays.
"Everything is set for the barangay elections in the City of San Fernando this Monday. We have coordinated details with the Commission on Elections and the Philippine National Police for the conduct of orderly polls," Santiago told Sun.Star Pampanga.
He added that city officials and City Government employees have been ordered to veer away from partisanship.
"City officials are not allowed to declare or raise the hands of candidates in barangays. There will be no endorsements and no campaigning for any candidate within the premises of polling precincts lest they face sanctions.
Personally, I have not endorsed anyone to anybody. It will again be the mandate of the people that should be followed," said Santiago.
He noted however, that the City Government would welcome changes in leadership with new faces and the continuity of service of those who would be re-elected.
"They would be most welcome in this administration. However, they would be 'processed’ about the City Government's direction, thrusts and advocacies because the Fernandino should come first in service. I am optimistic that the barangay elections in San Fernando will be clean, honest, orderly and peaceful," concluded Santiago.
