CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Giant Lantern Festival 2013 had donated some 80 pieces of the famed Parul Sampernandu to damaged churches in Bohol, in a bid to share just a little Yuletide cheer despite the recent calamities that devastated the province.
Committee heads Engr. Marnie Castro and businesswoman Tess Laus, with former city Administrator Fer Caylao and Bong Mah, turned over the lanterns to Pampanga Auxiliary Bishop Pablo Virgilio S. David, D.D. at the Heroes Hall recently.
The group also donated lanterns to the Archdiocese of Palo to brighten up the churches in Leyte that were damaged by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), in time for the start of the nine-day Simbang Gabi.
The donation also included assistance in terms of relief items for the victims of the recent calamities in Central Visayas.
Mayor Edwin Santiago said the City Government of San Fernando is one with the Catholic community in Pampanga in extending help and support to the victims of the recent calamities.
Santiago also urged companies and other institutions in the capital city to refrain from lavish parties and, instead, donate to the victims of the recent earthquake in Bohol and the survivors of Typhoon Yolanda. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
