PORAC -- Two farmers in this town were injured in two separate incidents of grenade blast and shooting recently.
At 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Modesto Posadas, a farmer and member of Aniban ng Nagkakaisang Mamamayan sa Hacienda Dolores (Aniban), was assaulted by two gunmen on board a motorcycle. He was hit on the shoulder and is now confined at the town’s medical center.
Recently, another member of Aniban, identified as Jessel Orgas, was seriously injured when several individuals threw a grenade into his residence.
The Alyansa ng Magbubukid sa Gitnang Luzon (AMGL), in a statement, denounced the incidents described as harassment of farmers opposing development projects by two giant firms.
Canlas said prior to the incident, Posadas had just taken his child to school.
He also said there was an attempt to burn down the house of Orgas, prior to the grenade blast. Someone shot a burning arrow inside his house, resulting in the burning of some parts of his home, Canlas said.
The incidents, he said, add up to human rights violations.
