CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (PamCham) over the weekend thanked Kapampangans as well as Central Luzon folk for their support to the business groups and the Laus Group-run CLTV 36's "Lingap ng Central Luzon Para sa mga Biktima ng Bagyong Yolanda" fund and donation drive.
During the Disaster Management Forum at Max's Restaurant in Villa Del Sol, this city, PamCham president Jim Jimenez said: "PamCham's Board of Directors expresses its earnest gratitude to the entire Kapampangan community, as well as the people of Central Luzon, who demonstrated compassion, commiseration, and unity not only through words of sympathy but in tangible material and their time and deeds of generosity.”
The 11-day "Lingap" telethon, he disclosed, was able to generate some P2.5 million in cash and truckloads of relief goods.
"Last December 4, with PamCham director Sonia Soto and the CLTV 36 crew, we personally went to Daanbantayan in Northern Cebu to distribute the relief goods consisting of packed rice, bottled water, canned goods, mongo beans, medicines, clothes and slippers. Immediately, we felt the gratefulness of the beneficiaries and we felt their optimism grow as they begin to comprehend that Kapampangans are supporting them and find comfort in the knowledge that just like we did, they will overcome the adversities," added Jimenez.
"Perhaps, this is because we ourselves have felt the same misery and desolation, when, more than two decades ago, we suffered the calamitous destruct of Mt. Pinatubo and the ensuing lahars. The recovery and rehabilitation was painstaking but we were determined to rise from the ashes--metaphorically and literally--which we did," concluded Jimenez.
