CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Kapampangan officials led by City of San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago yesterday vowed continuous support for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or Tesda.
During the opening rites of the three-day 2013 Tesda Regional Skills Competition at Robinsons Starmills in this city, Santiago noted that the skills development authority has been a key factor in the success of San Fernando’s livelihood programs.
“Very recently, about 800 Fernandinos completed their skills and techvoc training in cooperation with Tesda, with a high passing rate of 86 percent. The graduates, through our City Employment Services Office, get employed immediately here and abroad, while others find jobs overseas because of their acquired skills. Tesda has proven to be a key factor in our employment and livelihood programs,” he said.
Former City Administrator Ferdinand Caylao, who represented 3rd District Representative Oscar Rodriguez, agreed and disclosed that Tesda, in forging public-private partnerships, has empowered a lot of Kapampangans.
"Nabibigyan ng Tesda ng kakayahan ang ating mga kababayan tungo sa magandang pamumuhay. With Tesda as a partner, we can do more," he quipped.
Speaking for 4th District Representative Rimpy Bondoc, Board Member Nestor “Bay” Tolentino stressed that Tesda is an effective way of developing a community.
“Tesda is recognized not only throughout the country but in other countries as well. It continues to provide opportunities and a bright future for its students and trainees,” Tolentino, who himself has ongoing techvoc scholars at Tesda, said.
“Because of the high rate of employability of Tesda graduates, Kapampangans are reaping benefits for their families. That is why Capitol, headed by our beloved Gov. Lilia Pineda, will continuously support Tesda in its thrusts,” added Board Member Tonton Torres.
The skills competition, according to Tesda regional director Teodoro Gatchalian, will aim to enhance participants from the provinces of Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales and host Pampanga.
“This will cover 23 skills sectors which we will enhance and hopefully defend our current title as national champions in the countrywide competition this coming January,” he said.
