CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The City Government of San Fernando and Switzerland are looking at forging a trade agreement and exchange of investments.
This was disclosed by Mayor Edwin Santiago yesterday, who said that he has had initial talks with Swiss Ambassador Ivo Sieber after the Giant Lantern Festival at Robinsons Starmills on December 14.
Sieber was among the GLF Board of Judges.
“I just got a call again from the Swiss ambassador and told me that his country is very much interested in a trade agreement and them possibly investing here in San Fernando,” Santiago told Sun.Star Pampanga.
He said Sieber was particularly interested in having the Fernandino lanterns or “Parul Sampernandu” along with other products marketed in Switzerland.
“He was very interested in our lanterns, furniture and crafts, plus our food products that are uniquely Fernandino. In return, Switzerland will pour in investments to boost our local products and tourism promotion,” added Santiago.
The initial phase of the proposed trade agreement and exchange, Santiago said, will be to forge a “sisterhood” pact with a Switzerland local government unit.
“We are very optimistic that the proposal will materialize at least by second quarter next year. We are also very happy that more investors, local and foreign, are coming to the city,” he said.
