CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Come December this year, the world might see a bigger Giant Lantern Festival (GLF) in this city.

This was disclosed by 2013 GLF Executive Committee chairman Engr. Marni Castro on Friday, who said that from last year’s 10 participants in the renowned “Ligligan Parul” will possibly increase to 15.

“We are looking at the comeback of giant lanterns from barangays Sindalan, Del Rosario, Sto. Niño, San Felipe and probably San Agustin. The GLF will be bigger this year,” he said.

The 2013 GLF Executive Committee, in its assessment of the recent December 14 competition seen by over 30,000 tourists, and more than 300,000 spectators in the two-week exhibition, also rated the “Ligligan Parul” as highly successful.

“Except for a few glitches like shortage of passes, last year’s GLF was very successful and orderly. Everything ended with a positive note. We hope to replicate that December this year as planning would start early on February,” committee members said.

Last year, the “Ligligan Parul” was participated in by champion Telabastagan, Sta. Lucia, Del Pilar, Del Carmen, Calulut, San Pedro, San Nicolas, Dolores, San Juan and San Jose.
