CAMP OLIVAS -- A suspected member of a carnapping group operating in Bulacan and nearby provinces in Central Luzon Region was wounded and arrested during a brief exchange of gunfire with operatives of the Highway Patrol Unit (HPU) and Marilao police in Barangay Lolomboy, Bocaue, Bulacan recently.

Chief Superintendent Raul Petrasanta, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon, identified the suspected carnaper as Pablito Gumasing, of Barangay Batia, Bocaue town.

Petrasanta said that HPU and Marilao police tried to flag down a Hyundai Getz, believed to be a hot car, while conducting a checkpoint in the area.

The said vehicle driven by Gumasing did not stop, prompting the lawmen to give chase, he said.

The suspect fired at the chasing lawmen and a brief exchange of firefight ensured.

Gumasing stopped the vehicle after he was wounded, Petrasanta said.

Police recovered a Ford Focus, one Honda Civic, a Hyundai Getz and assorted parts of cannibalized vehicles at the suspected safehouse of Gumasing in Barangay Batia, Bocaue town.

The recovered hot vehicles are now being verified, Petrasanta said.

He said that PRO will continue its unwavering efforts to fight criminality within the region and will keep on reinvigorating its anti-criminality campaigns. (Ric Sapnu)
