ANGELES CITY - The barangay council of Balibago has formed its anti-prostitution task force to protect the public against sexually-transmitted diseases like Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV).
Balibago chairman Tony Mamac said the move is in line with Barangay Council Ordinance, “An ordinance addressing the system of prostitution, imposing penalties on its pepetrators, providing protective measures and support services for the prostituted persons, and for other purposes.”
Mamac said the ordinance will be strictly enforced by the task force. The village chief added that women and children should be protected from sexually-transmitted diseases.
Aside from this, the local government is finding ways to improve the image of Fields Avenue and other parts of the village as a prostitution area.
The official also warned individuals and establishments engaged in human trafficking. The Anti-Traficking Pesons Act of 2003 or Republic Act Number 9208 expressly prohibits the trafficking of persons by any means for the purpose of prostitution, pornography and sexual exploitation.
