CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- It's Cebu's Sinulog in Pampanga.

And probably, just like in other places in the country where the Sto. Niño is revered on his annual Sunday feast, the religious in Barangay Sto. Niño here and their guests, have strongly put their faith in the Child Jesus versus calamities, disasters, and other problems the Kapampangans and the rest of the Filipinos are in to.

On Sunday, the faithful prayed that Tropical Depression Agaton would not do more harm to Mindanao residents.

"In this time of disasters, calamities and controversies hounding the government, the Sto. Nino symbolizes new beginnings, change, reform and faith that God is truly with us. We pray to him that children all over the country would not fall prey to to all these. Viva Sto. Nino!" said City of San Fernandino Budget Officer Eda Panganiban, whose son played Sto. Niño aboard a float during the austere yet festive celebration.

Elementary student Carlo Sanchez expressed optimism that the Sto.Niño would always be here to guide children like him.

"He is like us. We believe that faith and prayers to God will help solve our problems," he said.

Over at Sto.Tomas town, Mayor Lito Naguit joined Tomasians in a quiet celebration highlighted by a private christening of his child.

"Like other places in the country, we kept the celebrations here in Sto. Niño Sapa quiet and simple, in respect to the situation of our brothers and sisters in Mindanao. Calamities are here early and we share our faith that the Sto. Niño would guide us in all of these," Naguit said. (JTD)
