CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Provincial Board (PB) led by Vice-Governor Dennis Pineda is set to mediate in the on-going land dispute problem in Porac town.
This was disclosed Monday by Second District Board Member Salvador Dimson Jr., who told Sun.Star Pampanga that the farmers involved in the reported land dispute have asked the PB for assistance on their plight.
"Last Friday before our regular session, the concerned farmers came to the Provincial Board session hall asking if we could intervene in the problem. But the august body’s initial consensus was that we could on mediate or act as ‘referees’ like what we did with the farmers in Clark,” Dimson said.
He noted that the PB has no police powers or any other means to directly address the situation in Porac involving a private land firm and the farmers.
“We have no police powers or means within the mandate of the PB and the law. But we coulkd mediate and at least come up with something in aid of legislation so such cases would find an amicable resolution. In the spirit of fairness, we would conduct and mediate in a dialogue between the farmers and the other party. We hope to help them find soonest, an amicable settlement on their concerns,” said Dimson. (JTD)
