ANGELES CITY -- A determined Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan on Wednesday assured that “no one is above the law” in this highly urbanized city as he is set to implement stringent peace and order measures as well as traffic management programs in the city’s major thoroughfares.

Pamintuan said that he has directed the City Police to effectively implement other measures to prevent criminal elements in the city.

Angeles City police chief Senior Superintendent Eden Ugale assured that the peace and order situation in this city is “manageable.”

“Ang mga naibabalitang krimen ay kaakibat ng isang progresibong lugar ngunit ginagawa namin ang aming makakaya upang mapangalagaan ang lahat sa syudad,” Ugale said.

This includes also the safety of ordinary citizens, businessmen and even foreign nationals residing in the city, he said.

Pamintuan said that they have initiated talks with the bustling Korean community in Angeles City in order to prevent the operation of “special groups” in the Korean community.

Pamintuan added that there are around 2,000 Korean nationals in the city with dozens more setting up businesses along Friendship area.

The mayor also assured the immediate action of the City Government on the traffic problem, particularly along Balibago. He added that he has adopted the practice of going into the field and setting an example to government officials, employees and citizens.

"It has dawned on me that in order to make the people work for betterment, the mayor should take the lead, literally. That means going into the streets and fixing traffic congestion," Pamintuan said.

Pamintuan also said that he has been doing rounds, inspecting the clearing of major streets of encroachment from business and settlers.

"I don't care and wala akong pakialam. Walang kaibigan o kamag-anak kung ang nakataya naman ay kapakanan ng mga Angeleños. People should see and realize that in Angeles City, no one is above the law. There are no untouchables in Angeles,” Pamintuan said. (with JTD)
