CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- President Benigno Aquino III assured First District Representative Joseller “Yeng” Guiao that his administration will give full support to the development of Clark Freeport Zone and its international airport.

In a statement sent to Sun.Star Pampanga on Thursday, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr., quoted the President as saying he “will prioritize the full development of the Clark Freeport Zone.”

“Bibigyan po ng prayoridad ng pamahalaan ang Clark development sa ilalim ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Aquino,” said Coloma.

Last Tuesday Guiao appealed to the president in his privilege speech during the House’s plenary: “Now is the time for President Benigno Aquino III to make a statement concerning Clark’s role in our country’s development. A policy statement from President Aquino is needed on what the role of Clark will be in our national development and to be supported by appropriate actions within a clear time table.”

Guiao also pointed out that another important concern is the release of some P7.2 billion which has been committed by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) for the construction of an airport terminal. “I hope that the terminal will be completed before the term of President Aquino ends.”

In a separate statement to Sun.Star Pampanga, DOTC Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, who has confirmed the budget needed for the terminal’s construction, said that it is currently under study.

“We are currently working on the feasibility study. It is being conducted by Aeroports de Paris,” said Abaya, adding he will immediately check on the clear cut timetable requested by Clark challengers.

Meanwhile, Guiao said he, Clark stakeholders sand people of Central and North Luzon are elated and encouraged by the President’s move to prioritize the development of the Freeport and its airport.

“We are very much encouraged and elated about President Aquino prioritizing the development of Clark. His giving attention to it is a manifestation that he wants to leave a legacy to region where he comes from. It gives us a very strong assurance on the development of the Freeport and Clark International effort in our efforts to keep on pushing for its growth. We are gratified and look forward to greater opportunities in tourism, employment and investments for the region,” said Guiao. (Kristine Venet Q. Andal/JTD)
