CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Pampanga Representative Joseller Guiao (1st district) and Clark Challenge stakeholders over the weekend lauded President Benigno Aquino III for prioritizing the development of Clark Freeport and Clark International Airport (CIA).

The President, through Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., vowed to prioritize the full development of the Clark Freeport Zone.

"Bibigyan po ng prayoridad ng pamahalaan ang Clark development sa ilalim ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Aquino," Coloma said.

Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya confirmed that Aeroports de Paris is working full speed on the feasibility study for the construction of the P7.2-billion airport terminal.

The swift response of Malacañang came just a day after Guiao delivered his privilege speech at the House of Representatives, where he urged the President to issue a concrete policy statement on Clark and its airport.

The appeal was a result of the consolidated inputs of the Clark Challenge: Stakeholders’ Summit some two weeks ago.

“We are very much elated about President Aquino prioritizing the development of Clark. His giving attention to it is a manifestation that he wants to leave a legacy to region where he comes from,” said Guiao.

He told Sun.Star Pampanga that stakeholders from all over Central and North Luzon view Aquino’s statement “encouraging.”

“Clark stakeholders and people of Central and North Luzon are encouraged by the President’s move to prioritize the development of the Freeport and its airport. It gives us a very strong assurance on the development of the Freeport and Clark International effort in our efforts to keep on pushing for its growth which will benefit not only the region but the whole country as well,” Guiao said.

The private sector, including business groups, locators and investors, largely welcomed the positive development on the future of Clark.

“We are gratified and look forward to greater opportunities in tourism, employment and investments for the region. We are optimistic that this will start the ball rolling for Clark and the adjoining regions,” they said. (JTD)
