SASMUAN -- Lawyer Raul Lambino, spokesperson of detained Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, on Tuesday said that he laments of the "strict treatment" being accorded by the government on the detained former President.

Lambino said that the government has become strict in the time of visits of friends and relatives of Arroyo. He also added that members of Arroyo's family are no longer allowed to stay and watch over the former president overnight.

"However, she is happy with the love that is shown to her by the people of her district," Lambino said, assuring that the former leader is still doing her job as an elected official of the province.

Arroyo, who is Pampanga's second district representative, is currently detained at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City while facing the plunder case before the Sandigan Bayan and a pending poll sabotage case before a Pasay City court. Also, she faces a graft case for the botched national broadband deal with Chinese firm ZTE under her presidency.

Arroyo pleaded not guilty to the cases.

Lambino, who was sent by Arroyo to the coastal town of Sasmuan, reported on the status of the eco-waste management plan for the town and other town’s of the Arroyo’s constituency in the 2nd District of Pampanga.

Lambino said that the plan would include where the district would be disposing his garbage. He added that the mapping of the other areas is being undertaken by people from the University of the Philippines. (With Fergie H. Fabian)
