CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The University of the Assumption (UA) ranked 15th among universities in the country in the global web ranking, according to the 2014 "Webometrics Ranking of World Universities" report released this January.
UA joined the ranks of Manila universities like De La Salle University Manila, which ranked 2nd; Ateneo de Manila University, 5th; and University of Santo Tomas, 6th. The University of the Philippines Diliman placed 1st in the web rankings.
In Asia, UA ranked 2,530 among the more than 7,500 higher educational institutions and 7,403 among the more than 22,000 universities ranked worldwide.
The ranking was conducted by the Spanish National Research Council (Superior de Investigaciones Científicas or CSIC) based on a composite indicator consisting of web visibility (50 percent) and activity (50 percent), which covers presence, openness and excellence.
CSIC maintains that activity, as an indicator, is based on the total number of webpages hosted in the main webdomain, including all the subdomains and directories as indexed by Google; the number of rich files published in dedicated websites according to the academic search engine Google Scholar and its academic papers published in high impact international journals provided by Scimago group.
According to www.webometrics.info, “(w)ebometrics is the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions” which has been performing an “independent, objective, free and scientific” ranking since 2004 for “providing reliable, multidimensional, updated and useful information about the performance of universities from all over the world based on their web presence and impact”.
“UA is committed to be a major player in the Web which is recognized worldwide as the most important communication tool in the academe in the 21st century,” UA said through a statement from Director for External Affairs and Media Fernando Santos.
