CAMP OLIVAS -- Police arrested on Thursday the alleged killer of a retired teacher and her daughter in Barangay Pulong Masle, Guagua town.

Senior Superintendent Oscar Albayalde, Pampanga police provincial director, identified the suspect in the gruesome double murder as Geoffrey Dionisio, 37, a resident of Sitio Duat, Barangay Pulong Masle, Guagua.

Dionisio, a relative of the victims, was bagged by Guagua police in his residence after some neighbors saw him leaving the scene of the crime, Albayalde said. The theory of the police was that the suspect is familiar with the victims as there was no forced entry noted during ocular inspection made by investigators and SOCO further strengthen the suspicion on the suspect’s involvement. Likewise, evidence found at the crime scene and testimonies of witnesses link the suspect to the case.

He said that the suspect admitted the crime and did not resist arrest.

On Wednesday, while the victims Adelaida Santos, 67, a retired teacher and her daughter Ivy, an Overseas Filipino Worker, were watching television at their house when Dionisio arrived.

The suspect was allegedly asking to lend him money but the victims reportedly refused.

The police report noted that the mother caught the suspect looking for money in a room. This prompted the suspect to get a polisher and hit the two victims in the head.

The suspect then got gasoline from the victims’ motorcycle and poured and burned them, Albayalde said.

Neighbors found the mother at the back of the house while her daughter was recovered at the comfort room.

After the incident, the suspect escaped and fled to an unknown direction.

After the arrest, Dionisio was submitted for a drug test and was found positive for drug use. A case of double murder was filed before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor, Capitol Compound, City of San Fernando, Pampanga against the suspect docketed under I.S. No.III-12-INQ-14B-00252 with no bail recommended.

Stronger anti-drug campaign

As this developed, Governor Lilia Pineda vowed Friday to implement a stronger anti-drug campaign after the brutal killing of the mother and daughter Santos.

Pineda made this promise during her visit to the wake of the victims in their family home.

Police yesterday said that the suspect was allegedly under the influence of drugs.

With this, Pineda said that she has ordered the local police to implement further police operations against pushers. She also added that the province will be coming up with a detailed rehabilitation program for young people in barangays who are suspected drug addicts.

"We need to address the problem right at the roots. Drug pushers in the barangays must be apprehended and those who are already addicted should be put under rehabilitation," Pineda said.

Pineda added that she has called on the barangay officials in Guagua town to report on the situation in their respective villages regarding illegal drugs. (Ric Sapnu/Ian Ocampo Flora)
