CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Pampanga's 11 district hospitals plus its lone provincial medical facility will be on Code White Alert during the observance of the Holy Week.
According to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Marcelo Jaochico, the Department of Health issued the Code White alert order to all government hospitals here to make sure all medical facilities are ready to attend to the needs of the public, and medicines and supplies are available at all times. Personnel, he added, are on standby to respond to any emergencies during Lent and the entire summer season.
"Under code white alert, government hospitals should be ready to respond to emergencies brought about by the ongoing influx of tourists and visitors who want to witness the Holy Week observance in the province," Jaochico said.
He added that government hospitals are stocked up with medicines and intravenous fluids for cases dehydration and diarrhea.
Jaochico said that during Holy Week in particular, doctors and nurses are also prepared for emergencies brought by the hot weather, like heat stroke, diarrhea, skin sunburn and food poisoning caused by food that readily spoils.
He also warned penitents to be cautious of their health because they are prone to tetanus and wound infection.
"They should check their bodies if they are in good health to self flagellate or to be crucified. It is also important to go to a medical facility before and after the penitence to make sure that they were not infected or contaminated with any kind of disease," he said.
