CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Provincial Government headed by Governor Lilia Pineda on Friday said that Capitol is set to purchase more farm machineries and equipment for distribution to farmers' groups in Pampanga.

Pineda said the Department of Agriculture (DA) directed most of its budget this year for the rehabilitation of the agriculture sector in calamity ravaged Southern Mindanao and other disaster hit areas like Bohol and Leyte, where the farm mechanization program (FMP) is the priority.

The governor assured farmers that Capitol will create its own FMP and continue the distribution of equipment to qualified farmers’ groups, adding there is a need to sustain the program to help boost agriculture in the province.

"Do not worry. The farm mechanization program will continue in the province. The Capitol will allocate funds for the provision of equipment," the governor told farmers' groups.

Earlier, some P200 million earmarked for the FMP was distributed to the seven provinces in Central Luzon, with Pampanga receiving bulk of the allocation under the counter-parting agreement with the provincial government.

In Pampanga, farm machinery was given free as 85 percent of the amount of equipment was subsidized by DA and the supposed 15 percent obligation of the farmers was shouldered by Capitol.
