Angeles mayor: ‘Let a thousand flowers bloom’-A A +A

ANGELES CITY – "Let a thousand flowers bloom."
So said Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan -- borrowing the famous quote from Mao Tse Tung -- as he disclosed recently that he has no objection on the proposal of the City Council calling for the conversion of highly urbanized Angeles City into a lone district, which may finally separate it from Mabalacat City and Magalang town.
During a breakfast forum with mediamen, Pamintuan stressed that Angeles City, or the whole First Congressional District for that matter, "does not belong only to the Pamintuans, Lazatins and Nepomucenos."
"I really do not have any objection to the proposal of the City Council. Let a thousand flowers bloom. Angeles City or the First District does not belong to the Pamintuans, Lazatins or Nepomucenos alone. Let others with aspirations rise," he said.
Pamintuan noted that there are thousands of "still nameless" constituents from the First District who want to serve the cities of Mabalacat and Angeles, as well as the Municipality of Magalang.
"These people may not have names yet in the political arena but they are similarly committed and dedicated. Making Angeles City a lone congressional district will certainly open up opportunities for them and give them a chance," he said.
Pamintuan added that he is not "bothered or worried" with the possible "entry" of new leaders or known political bigwigs in Angeles’ and the First District’s political circle.
"No, I am not worried. Not even with the reported intentions of Senator Lito Lapid. I would welcome that and new faces. I am glad about it knowing I am doing what I can for Angeles City," said Pamintuan. (JTD)
