DA wants farmers’ feedback-A A +A

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The Department of Agriculture (DA) Central Luzon Office here recently urged farmers to give them feedback on the agency’s programs to find out if they are displacing needed labor or affecting yield.
Speaking before members of the Pampanga Provincial Agriculture and Fisheries Council (PAFC) at Capitol on Thursday, DA Central Luzon Director Andrew Villacorta cited the programs as combined harvesting where the three separate operations of reaping, threshing, and winnowing are combined into a single process; post harvest technology; self-sufficiency; and climate change mitigation projects.
Villacorta cited as an example a farmer in Nueva Ecija who harvested twice the normal yield of palay by using combined harvesting.
Villacorta also urged the farmers to go on inter-cropping to attain self-sufficiency.
He also asked the farmers to have their crops insured as climate change is sure to affect their yield.
Villacorta furthered that farmers in Pampanga have helped in attaining self-sufficiency in rice.
“Right now, Pampanga is self-sufficient and is a net importer of rice in the region. That is why we thank the provincial government for its continuing support to the DA and farmers. Through your feedback, I believe we could improve our services for farmers,” said Villacorta. (JTD)
