CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) and the City Government of San Fernando are inviting young Fernandinos aged 18 to 24 years old to participate in JobStart Philippines program at Waltermart Mall on July 8 to 16.

JobStart, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Canada, is a program aimed to assist unemployed youth in looking for decent jobs through lectures on career decisions, technical and life skills, among others.

"This supports the priority agenda of the city government which is employment generation. We feel very lucky that the City of San Fernando has been chosen as one of the pilot LGUs for JobStart," said San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago.

This will open 360 positions for Fernandino youth to receive enhanced career guidance, knowledge on labor market information, and life skills training before being referred to potential employers for technical training and internship with quality employers.

Another batch will be provided with state-of-the-art career guidance and jobs market information. The success of the pilot strategies could translate to JobStart services for all San Fernando constituents in the future.

"This project enables the Dole to partner with employers through a training internship of up to six months. Employers who participate in the program will receive funding support, in return for taking on high school or college graduates as interns for up to six months," said Dominique R. Tutay, Director of the DOLE-Bureau of Local Employment. “They will devise, implement, and monitor implementation of their training plans for the youth as part of the partnership.”

Under the program, the 360 target San Fernando youth beneficiaries will receive stipends during training and at least 75 percent of the minimum wage from the employers during internship.
