CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- Motorcycle riding criminals were killed while two of their cohort-policemen were arrested during a brief encounter at Marisol Subdivision, Angeles City, on Monday.
Senior Superintendent Eden Ugale, Angeles City police director, identified the fatalities as Crisanto Francisco and Chris Neil Pineda, both residents of Northville, Barangay Cutud, Angeles City.
Those arrested were Police Officer 1 Jeffrey Miranda and Police Officer 1 J-sie Velasco, both members of the Angeles City Police Office.
Prior to the encounter, Ugale said that the suspects robbed the house of a certain Lito Tamayo, a resident of Marisol Subdivision, Angeles City.
Concerned citizens reported the incident and immediately, operatives of the Angeles City Police Station 6 responded to the area and caught the fleeing suspects on board a motorcycle, he said.
However, the suspects opened fire against the lawmen prompting them to return fire that resulted in the killing of the two suspects, Ugale said.
The two policemen were arrested at the vicinity of the encounter, allegedly acting as look-outs of the slain suspects, Ugale said.
The suspects were taken to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
Police recovered from the scene of the crime a caliber .45 pistol and a motorcycle used by the suspects.
The suspects were responsible in a series of robberies and holdups in the city and adjacent towns, Ugale said.
Chief Superintendent Raul Petrasanta, Police Regional Office-3 director, said the two policemen are now under custody of Angeles City Police while being investigated.
