CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – "I want this to stop. Let us not permit illegal drugs to destroy our children's future."
So said Governor Lilia Pineda on weekend as she appealed to all concerned mayors, police and barangay officials to intensify the drive and help fast track the campaign against the proliferation of illegal drugs in Pampanga.
The governor gave the marching order, disclosing that she was "getting very much worried about the worsening scenario of drug related problems in the province."
"Catch the pushers, save the users," she said.
"Do you wish to see your children dead on the road?" Pineda added.
The governor emphasized that she wants a lone but strong anti-illegal drugs taskforce created, which will work closely and coordinate with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Barangay Anti-drug Abuse Council (Badac) in identifying, monitoring and apprehending suspected drug pushers in each of the 505 villages of the province.
The taskforce will also be responsible in saving and putting into rehabilitation programs known drug users.
"Capitol will coordinate with the Central Luzon Drug Rehabilitation Center regarding the condition and plight of patients admitted in their facility," she quipped.
Pineda noted that a total of P1.4 million per month is being extended by the provincial government for the rehabilitation of patients at the facility.
Recently, the PDEA sought the help and support of all barangay officials in connection with the instructions of the governor on curbing illegal drugs distribution and use.
Governor Pineda urged barangay officials and local chief executives to immediately submit to authorities the list of suspected drug peddlers and users in their barangays and municipalities.
