CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Mayor Edwin Santiago urged Monday Fernandinos to emulate Kapampangan hero Tiburcio Tuason Hilario's ideals of social justice, democracy and love of country.
Speaking before multi-sectoral representatives during Hilario's 161st birth anniversary commemoration at Heroes Hall in this city, Santiago said that the hero born in Barangay San Juan here paved the way for the country's freedom, standing with Dr. Jose Rizal against Spanish domination.
"Tiburcio Hilario was able to unite not only Kapampangans but all Filipinos during a repressive regime. Sana ay ipagtuloy natin ang kanyang sigaw ng katarungan, kalayaan at ipagtuloy natin ang kanyang laban kontra katiwalian," he said.
Santiago noted that just like Hilario, local leaders should pursue serving people selflessly and with dedication and commitment.
"Hinihikayat ko rin ang ating mga namumuno na sana, tularan ang mabuting pamamahala ni Tiburcio Hilario. Dapat, ang bawat sentimo ay mapunta sa serbisyo at pangangailangan ng mga Fernandino at Filipino," he added.
Thanking the City Government for remembering the hero, Hilario's great granddaughter Ma. Elena Mercado agreed with Santiago and said the family hopes Filipinos will live with the hero's ideals of intense love of country, democracy and social justice. (JTD)
