CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Motorists plying Jose Abad Santos Avenue here and using the northbound entry toll of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) are irked by the reported systems glitch, which has been causing a gridlock and heavy traffic mostly during rush hours and sometimes in dead hours of the day.

City Traffic Management Division head Pines Pineda said another gridlock occurred about 2 p.m. Wednesday, causing a 45-minute jam, which extended up to the roundabout fronting Paskuhan Village.

"This is actually happening every day since January this year, particularly during rush hours and sometimes in dead hours of the day, meaning traffic is normal at that time. But when the two entrances of the toll entrance going to Dau bog down, heavy traffic ensues along with a gridlock in that area," Pineda said.

He told Sun.Star Pampanga that they have continuously notified and coordinated with NLEx officials regarding the effects of the systems glitch where the barricade wouldn't lift up, EZ tags are not read, and faulty dispensation of toll tickets.

"One Richard at NLEx told us that they are already working on the systems error. But so far, we haven’t received any updates yet and it just keeps on occurring. Dapat, mag-manual muna sila kapag may problema ang sistema nila para walang build-up at hindi nagkaka-traffic. Like this weekend, we have coordinated with them especially may big sale sa dalawang malls doon," said Pineda.

"Pag kasi sinara iyung dalawang toll entrance, affected na rin iyung southbound going to Manila ng NLEx. Our four to five lanes get narrowed down to three, then pag pumasok pa iyung from Mexico at lumabas naman iyung mga motorists from Dau, may build up na. Dapat talaga gawin na iyun ng NLEx. Motorists are really irritated by it," he added.

For the TMU's part, he said, city traffic aides and enforcers from the Mexico municipal government are closely monitoring the situation, with deployment of added personnel during peak hours. (JTD)
