CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – "Let's all be supermen and superwomen in fighting poverty, curbing corruption and in pursuing good governance."
So said Mayor Edwin Santiago on Monday during as he enjoined Fernandinos to support the moves of the national government in alleviating the lives of millions of poor Filipinos and ensuring corruption-free governance, starting with the City of San Fernando.
Speaking before multi-sectoral representatives at Heroes Hall after simultaneous wreath-laying at Heroes Park in celebration of National Heroes Day, Santiago said, "Our President is no superman. He cannot do it alone. He needs the support of each one of us. We must all be superheroes in fighting corruption and in our efforts to alleviate our brothers and sisters from poverty."
Citing the controversial pork barrel scam and its ill-effects on the economy, he said that good governance should be fostered with sound fiscal management for the efficient delivery of basic services to communities, a legacy of the country's heroes which he added should be pursued.
"We must ensure that every single centavo is put into good use and reaches the poor. Good governance should always come with sound fiscal management in order for us to achieve inclusive growth with real, tangible results and not just words," said Santiago.
In the city, he further said, resources are being maximized along with austerity measures, to see to it that economic and social programs are implemented and sustained.
"Kailangan ang bawat isa sa atin ay tumulong upang walang maiwan na mahirap. The freedom we enjoy today was born from the sacrifices of our heroes whom we honor today. Let that legacy live on. Let us all be superheroes, everyday heroes as we join hands in making a truly progressive San Fernando," Santiago said. (JTD)
