San Fernando beefs up war vs drugs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The City of San Fernando has beefed up its fight against illegal drugs after barangay captains and tanods of from 35 villages gathered on Friday at the Heroes Hall for the Anti-Drug Summit meant to increase awareness on the drug problem at the grassroots.

The summit was spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Pampanga in coordination with the City Government of San Fernando.

Mayor Edwin Santiago stressed the need for unity to ensure peace and order, particularly in the fight against illegal drugs, in the capital city and in the province.

He urged summit participants to be diligent in performing their duties to succeed in the war against drugs in their areas.

At the same time, the mayor acknowledged the unity of the province of Pampanga and the City of San Fernando in serving Fernandinos and kabalens.

"Isang kilusan laban sa pinagbabawal na gamot," he added.

For her part, Governor Lilia Pineda expressed her expectations on the support from the barangays in the anti-illegal drugs campaign.

"With the number of drugs pushers and users in Pampanga, the city and province expect the barangay tanods to help the government in this anti-drugs campaign. Let us be fearless in protecting San Fernando and Pampanga," she said.

The governor has also committed to provide new uniforms to barangay tanods and bantay-bayan.

"Umpisa pa lamang ito. Tutuloy-tuloy na natin," she said.

Highlighting the summit was the signing of the pledge of commitment by the participants led by the governor and city mayor, followed by a ceremonial dissolving of confiscated shabu.
