CLARK FREEPORT -- Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president and CEO Arnel Paciano Casanova disclosed on Thursday that the state-owned firm will infuse at least P5 billion for the Clark Green City (CGC) project at the 35,000 hectares area in Pampanga and Tarlac provinces.

Casanova said the BCDA has its own funds for the initial development of the Green City that will spur tremendous economic growth in Central Luzon.

"The P5 billion will be used mostly for the roads and other needed infrastructure at the Green City," he added.

Casanova said the BCDA is targeting some P59 billion in investments through public-private partnerships for the first phase of Clark Green City.

Casanova spoke to Sun.Star Pampanga shortly after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Allan Pineda Lindo Jr., better known as apl.de.ap of the international music group Black Eyed Peas.

Casanova said that apl.de.ap and his Singapore-based APL TREE PTE Limited will be tapped to promote Clark Green City.

"We need innovators and creative Filipinos to promote the Green City," said Casanova. Apl.de.ap was born and raised in Angeles City, which is near Clark.

"Apl.de.ap and other artists will be used to attract investors based in other countries to invest at Clark and its Green City," said Casanova.

Apl.de.ap said, "I am excited to help promote the Green City to help my fellow Kapampangans and other Filipinos."

Casanova said the BCDA's newest project in Clark is turning Sacobia into a new urban area. It will be half the size of Metro Manila.

Cassanova said the project "will be environmentally sustainable, socially inclusive, economically competitive, culturally relevant, and technologically integrated."

He added that it will generate billions in investments and generate thousands of jobs.

Casanova said that their planned project will be the catalyst for the economic development of surrounding local government units. (Reynaldo G. Navales and Joey Pavia/Contributor)
