CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Governor Lilia Pineda pledged on Wednesday to support the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit, which will run from January 26 to February 3, 2015 at Clark Freeport in Pampanga.
In a meeting with Ambassador Marciano Paynor Jr., Apec 2015 Organizing Committee chair and retired Lieutenant General Anthony Alcantara and General Ricardo Banaya at Capitol, Governor Pineda said that she will immediately create a coordinating committee, which will help in the preparations for the summit.
"First and foremost we will oversee traffic management, peace and order as well as cleanliness during the entire summit," she said.
Reacting to Paynor's request for the City of San Fernando's giant lanterns, which the ambassador would want to be seen by the more than 1,800 delegates to the summit, the governor said, "It could be arranged."
"We have done that before and brought the giant lanterns at Clark. Only, we will have to locate them at the Clark Parade Grounds so the delegates would not have to go to the hassle of travelling far from Clark," she said.
Pineda also pledged to hold a trade fair and exhibit, which will showcase Pampanga’s best products, souvenirs and cuisine at the parade grounds.
"We will also prepare cultural presentations for the delegates as well as tender dinner for them in one of the summit days. We are very happy and proud Pampanga has been chosen as a venue for Apec. We will do what we can to support this historic event," she said. (JTD)
