Guagua-Floridablanca crossroads now Willian C. Golangco junction

GUAGUA -- The Provincial Board (PB) has officially named the Guagua-Floridablanca crossroads to Golangco Junction after William C. Golangco, a pioneer in the Philippine construction industry, who has made valuable contributions that triggered economic growth and development in the area.

The PB led by Vice-Governor Dennis Pineda approved recently Ordinance No. 658, with the conformity of Governor Lilia Pineda, renaming the crossroads at the Guagua-Floridablanca provincial road at Barangay San Antonio and San Jose Santos-Sirab , both in Guagua town along Jose Abad Santos Avenue, to William C. Golangco Junction.

Second District Board Member Salvador Dimson said that for the past four decades, the junction has been called " Golangco" when Engr. William Golangco established his construction company depot in Barangay San Jose Santos which contributed considerably to the economic growth of the two barangays.

"The Golangco name has gained a great degree of historical association and prominence, gratefully acknowledged by the barangay inhabitants thereat and those of nearby areas including the commuting public," Dimson said.

Vice-Mayor Anthonny "Ton-Ton" Twano said that the Sanggunian Bayan here also approved Resolution No. 46-S-2014, clamoring for the naming of the crossroad portion of the road as William Golangco Junction as a worthy memorial and acknowledgement to a great man.

The Barangay Council of Jose Abad Santos and Siran also appoved a similar resolution. Second District Congresswoman Gloria Macalagal-Arroyo also filed a resolution in the House of Representatives, which has been elevated to the Senate.

During Thursday's unveiling of the William C. Golangco Junction marker, Senator Dick Gordon said “it is an honor to be invited to the renaming of the junction after a great man.”

"We are here today to honor a great man, to honor his vision , his sacrifices and the fact that he made life better to a lot of people, not only in the two barangays but all who travel here," Gordon said.

Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda- Cayabyab, representing her mother Governor Pineda , said that what made Engr. Golangco a great man is the fact that he just did what had to be done to improve tremendously the quality of life of the inhabitants of the said barangays.

"The Golangcos are great because they just keep quit and do it. That is why we are here honouring a great man ," Cayabyab said.

Marilyn Golangco-Del Bianco, daughter of the late Willian Golangco, said that his father was a fair and hard working man.

"He would always tell us na kahit hindi tayo kumita sa mga projects basta wag kayong mandadaya or manloloko. My father said that the most important thing in business is the integrity and honesty, that is why he was successful because he was always fair and protected the interest of his employees and the good name of the company," Del Bianco said.

The late William C. Golangco was a pioneer and manor contractor in the Philippine Construction industry for 50 years. He was born in Manila in 1922, finished high school at De La Salle College in 1940 and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from.the University of the Philippines in 1945.

He was awarded by the Business Writers Association as "Builder of the Year" and conferred with multiple distinctions from Presidents Ramon Magsaysay, Diosdado Macapagal, Ferdinand Marcos and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The late Willian Golangco was also given certificates of commendation by the United States t for the successful construction of medical and housing facilities in the former Clark Air Base and Subic Naval Base. (Chris Navarro)
