APALIT, Pampanga -- In preparation for the coming rainy season, the local government here recently conducted a massive clean-up drive along the Pampanga River.
Led by Mayor Peter Nucom, local officials and municipal employees held a simultaneous cleaning of the riverbanks in the town as part of the Manila Bay Clean-Up, Rehabilitation and Preservation Program.
Together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Central Luzon, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) of Pampanga and the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), national, provincial and local official joined together in reviving the Pampanga River and bring back its old glory.
To further preserve the beauty of the Rio Grande, Nucom reminded Apalitenos, particularly those residing along the river banks, to protect and preserve the natural resources and avoid throwing garbage and trash in it.
“Lingapin at mahalin natin ang Pampanga River dahil isa ito sa mga pangkabuhayan ng maraming Apaliteños. Magtulong-tulong tayo mapabuti at maibalik ang dating ganda nito,” he said.
Nucom also expressed his gratitude to the officials and employees of DENR-Central Luzon, EMB-Central Luzon and Penro for extending their time and efforts for the success of such environmental project.
One of the advocacies of Nucom's administration is to make the municipality of Apalit one of the cleanest town in the whole province.
