Lawmaker's wife had missing jewelry, cash after Resorts World attack

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Elizabeth Panlilio-Gonzales, the late wife of Pampanga third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. who was one of the victims of the Resorts World attack, had missing jewelry and cash withdrawn from the former's account three days after her death.

This was made known during the recent congressional hearing on the Resorts World Attack.

Surigao del Sur second district Representative Johnny Pimentel said Gonzales met with him and Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas and told them about his wife's valuables, like jewelry and a Rolex watch, were lost.

This was confirmed to SunStar Pampanga by Gonzales who forwarded records of the withdrawals amounting P20,500.

Gonzales kept mum for almost three weeks after the tragedy to allow family and himself time to grieve.

"As one of the members of the 17th Congress and a deputy majority leader, I am an ex-officio member of all committees, including the above-mentioned three panels, and can actively participate on the probe," Gonzales said.

"Much as I want to participate in the hearings, I have decided, after consulting with my children, to voluntarily inhibit myself from the committee probes and trust the same to the right people," he added.

Gonzales said he has faith and confidence on House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, Majority Floor Leader Farinas, Chairman Romeo Acop, Chairman Gus Tambunting, Chairman Lucy Gomez and the rest of the members of the aforementioned committees.
