SAN SIMON -- Officials from Agusan del Sur province visited on Tuesday, July 25, this fourth district town to benchmark some of its best practices on innovation and e-readiness.
The 24 delegates, who came from the 13 towns and a city of Agusan del Sur, paid a visit to San Simon to learn the effective way of utilizing computer innovation in good local governance.
During the seminar, Municipal Information and Communication Technology Head Algie Tayag discussed the wonders of technology and how it can help the development of a third class municipality.
Tayag tackled how the municipality successfully transitioned from the traditional governance to a paperless one, as early as 2011 when the national government does not still recognize the value of creating the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
According to him, maximizing technology through the use of computers and software not only lightens the work for local employees but also provides convenience to stakeholders and clients.
“Basically, we just discussed how we implement our usual practices in the town, business permit processing, I.T. innovation, and paperless governance, which were recognized to be effective and convenient by the national government and private sector,” he said.
He also shared San Simon’s streamlined programs in the electronic issuance of Mayor’s Permit which has been hailed by different award-giving bodies, both local and national since 2013 and its impact on the development of the business sector of the local government.
“Dito sa San Simon, we can assure clients, especially businessmen, that we can process their Mayor’s Permit in one hour provided that they have the complete requirements,” he said.
Tayag, who was one of the pioneers of MICT in this town, also answered queries from the delegates on the importance of investing into a good computer system which can perfectly serve the needs of their respective local government units.
“Yes, may mga software na nabibili sa labas, but how can we be sure na ‘yan ang kailangan ng munisipyo natin? Baka instead na makatulong, mas makabagal pa sa trabaho natin,” he said.
Mayor Leonora Wong, for her part, expressed her gratitude to the delegates for visiting their town and acknowledging their efforts to improve local governance through the use of technology.
Wong, who introduced technology to the local government during her first term, said transitioning from the traditional way is never easy but with the passion and drive of her and her employees, San Simon is now hailed as one of the Most Outstanding LGUs in Central Luzon.
She also assured the delegates of a very informative session which they can bring home to their respective local government units in the hope that they will soon adopt the computerized system.
