287 Apalit college students get cash grants

APALIT -- Some 287 college students from this town received financial assistance from the local government under the Mayor Peter Nucom scholarship program on Thursday, August 17.

The scholarship program, which started in 2016, aims to provide cash assistance to indigent but deserving students from this town.

Nucom said that for this batch alone, the local government allotted some P574,000 or P2,000 per beneficiary.

He stressed that local government has allotted a substantial amount of the annual budget to support education of the youth.

“Nakikita natin ‘yung importance ng (We see the importance of) education for the future of every youth, which will also benefit the town later on. Kaya ang munisipyo, ang lokal na gobyerno (The municipality and the local government is) ay willing mag-invest para sa edukasyon (for education),” he said.

Nucom added that the local government has more than a thousand scholars from elementary to tertiary level who regularly receive their cash grants under the program.
