MABALACAT City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo recently led the city government’s campaign to prevent the spread of tuberculosis among the people here.
The anti-TB is aimed at educating the people about the highly-contagious disease.
The city health office conducted a seminar as part of the culminating activities in line with the observance of the Lung Month (August) dubbed “Pigilan, Labanan, Sugpuin ang TB.”
Garbo expressed support to the Department of Health’s anti-TB drive.
“We in the local government support the DOH campaign to end TB,” the mayor said.
The mayor said he appropriated P40 million --- P15 million for a central pharmacy, P15 million for medical assistance, and 10 million for burial assistance – for the city’s health programs.
The Philippines is one of the 22 high burden countries for tuberculosis.
Most cases of TB are curable and individuals with the disease are treated with a full course of correct dosage of anti-TB medicines.
In the Philippines, Russia, India and South Africa, TB cases unaffected by conventional medication will continuously increase in number in the next two decades.
