Monday, October 02, 2017

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The City Government of San Fernando, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry Pampanga, kicked off on Monday, October 2, the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month with a fun run participated by dozens of enthusiasts.

Open in 3K and 5K categories, the activity was participated in by some 200 runners from different cities and municipalities in Pampanga and Metro Manila.

DTI Provincial Director Elenita Ordonio said this was simultaneously held nationwide not only to promote health and wellness but also to raise awareness on consumer rights and responsibilities.

“Our theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Consumer Rights in the Digital Age.’ We are encouraging the public to always be vigilant when buying goods and products,” she added.

Ordonio also thanked the local government unit of San Fernando for helping them towards the success of the first consumer fun run.

For his part, Mayor Edwin Santiago stressed that the activity serves as a venue to disseminate information on consumer related matters to both the public and private sectors.

“Every consumer plays a vital role in the economy, therefore, each of us must be updated on the policies and rules set by the authorities to avoid being misled by product claims,” Santiago said.

Meanwhile, the winners of the race for the 5K men division were Reynante Torio (first place), Mark Anthony Oximen (second place) and Raymart Songco (third place). For the women’s division, the first three finishers were Estefanie Calilung (first), Sarah Orsajes (second) and Vilma Papa (third).

For the 3K men’s division, the winners were Marcelino Goleng Jr., (first place), Archie Abayon (second place) and James Pineda (third place). The women who also emerged as victors were Trisha Anne Onofre (first), Shantelle Canlas (second) and Royena Pabustan (third).
