Wednesday, October 04, 2017

PORAC -- Centenarians Beatriz Dela Rosa Cortez, 102 and Teodora Sison Canlas, 100 recently received checks worth P100,000 each from the local government.

This is pursuant to Section 2, paragraphs B and A of Republic Act No. 10868 otherwise known as the Centenarians Act of 2016.

Both were accompanied by their relatives who led the two on wheelchairs provided by the municipal government.

The presentation of the cash gifts was facilitated by Mayor Condralito dela Cruz, Vice Mayor Dexter David and Board Member Fritzie David-Dizon.

David said the two centenarians are migrants to the town.

Cortez, who is from Borongan Samar, married a Poraqueno. She had seven children and was a full time housewife.

Canlas, on the other, is from Mexico town and also married a Poraqueno and had 12 children.

Board member Fritzie David-Dizon said the cash gift is a great help to the families of the centenarians specially in the medical expenses and needs of the seniors.

The granting of cash incentives is specified in the Centenarian Act, which states all Filipinos, who reach the age of 100 whether residing in the Philippines or abroad shall be honored for his or her longevity and given the cash incentive. The awardees should also receive incentives from their local government units depending on how much the area can award.

In a supplemental guideline, Filipino centenarians, whether residing in the country or abroad, who were alive when the law took effect on July 15, 2016 but died before the actual implementation of the law are still entitled to receive the incentive. This will be received by the legal representative or the nearest surviving relative of the centenarian.

Dizon also said that the Provincial Government of Pampanga also gives cash gifts to Kapampangans who reach the age of 95.
