ANGELES CITY -- A village chairman in this city has expressed support to the government’s anti-illegal drugs drive dubbed Oplan Tokhang recently restored by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Barangay Balibago Chairman Rodelio “Tony” Mamac, a retired police officer, said that Oplan Tokhang has been proven to be effective.
Mamac and other barangay leaders in Balibago accompanied the city police in sending summons to suspected drug pushers in said village.
Mamac said he recently distributed new uniforms to Bantay Bayan members for the residents to easily identify them.
“To identify their authorities in the conduct of Oplan Tokhang with the PNP personnel of Police Station 4, Balibago and serving summons through Katarungang Pambarangay against those persons involved in illegal drugs,” Mamac said.
“This strategy proved to be effective in the eradication of the drug menace in our barangay,” he added.
Various groups assailed and blamed President Duterte for numerous deaths following the implementation of Oplan Tokhang two years ago.
PNP Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa earlier said that the police will avoid the mistakes of earlier anti-drug operations.
“Mistakes in the past will no longer be repeated. We will go out and win this war,” Dela Rosa said.
