VICE Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda on Monday, March 12, urged the youth to stay away from illegal drugs and focus on getting an education to improve their chances of getting out of poverty.
Pineda led the distribution Monday, March 12, of financial assistance amounting to P28.657 million to 11,463 Grade 12 students from 79 schools.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) approved the release of the amount, which was sourced from the gender and development fund at the request of Governor Lilia Pineda.
During the distribution, Pineda emphasized to Kapampangan youth the need to stay away from illegal drugs and focus on their education instead.
"Please stay away from illegal drugs. It will ruin your future," the vice governor said.
"Try to finish your studies by availing of educational scholarships from the provincial government," he added, referring to the program that provides P3,000 each to 5,583 students every semester.
All 11,463 Grade 12 students in Pampanga public schools, the first batch to graduate under the K to 12 program, each received checks for P2,500 which they can use for graduation expenses, job application or college tuition.
Pineda also footed the bill for free tickets to the Lubao International Balloon and Musical Festival 2018, which will be held on March 23 to 25 at the Pradera Verde.
Together with the vice-governor, former Pampanga Representative Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo also visited some schools in the second district, meeting with students and teachers and asking them about their learning and teaching needs.
Including those in private schools and state colleges and universities, Pampanga has a total of 18,982 Grade 12 students, according to Leonardo Zapanta, Department of Education Pampanga division superintendent.
The checks were distributed by districts by Board Members Fritzie Dizon, Anthony Joseph Torres, Salvador Dimson Jr., Ferdinand Labung, Rosve Henson, Ananias Canlas Jr., Cherry Manalo, Benjamin Jocson, Arthur Salalila, Nelson Calara, Rolando Balingit and Gerome Tubig.
