ANGELES CITY – A police officer was shot dead by an unidentified man armed with M-16 rifle inside a store in Barangay Pulungbulu in this city Wednesday night.

Senior Superintendent Danilo Bautista, city police director, said Senior Police Officer 3 Rolly Reyes and his brother-in-law, Melencio Paras, were having a drinking spree at Elvie’s Store when the suspect struck at around 10:40 p.m.

Capitol orders forced evacuation

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Provincial Government of Pampanga ordered the forced evacuation of 64 families living in makeshift tents inside the Arayat National Park as Super Typhoon Juan battered Northern Luzon.

At the same time, some 3,000 hectares of agricultural lands were submerged in floodwaters, while 24 villages in four towns of Pampanga province are also experiencing flooding caused by Juan (international codename: Megi).

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- A candidate for barangay chairman is facing disqualification before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for allegedly not knowing how to read and write.

Architect Nestor Manalang, a professor at the University of Holy Angel and a resident of Pilar Village, filed on October 14 a disqualification case against barangay chairman Nestor Lingat alleging that the incumbent village chief "cannot read nor write."

During an interview at Sun.Star Pampanga's office late Sunday afternoon, Porac Vice Mayor Dexter David said contrary to reports that he threatened to shoot two radio broadcasters and "warned" Sun.Star Pampanga reporter Charlene Cayabyab to stay out of Porac or something "untoward" might happen to her, he didn't bully anyone.
