Wednesday, March 17, 2010

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- A group of newsmen in Pampanga hit Governor Eddie Panlilio for allegedly making “sweeping accusations” against the local media.

Members of the National Union of Journalists (NUJP) Pampanga chapter decried Panlilio for saying that most local media men are not journalists but public relations (PR) men.

"We challenge Governor Panlilio to name names. The governor must either put up or shut up. He should not be making sweeping accusations against the media when he can’t even make a categorical answer of whether he has a child or not when asked by Boy Abunda," NUJP Pampanga president Ashley Manabat said.

The former priest turned governor made the allegations during the ABS-CBN talk show “Bottomline” hosted by Boy Abunda.

Panlilio refused to “name names” and simply said in a text message sent to Sun.Star Pampanga “Nung e tutu ot caya mangaplas la ding aliwa? (If that is not true, why are others [mediamen] hurt?)

He added in a succeeding message that his accusations do not apply to those who were “unhurt.” (Jovi T. De Leon)
