LUBAO -- A 19-year-old beautiful lass from this first class municipality captured the prestigious title of Miss Philippines Earth-Eco Tourism 2010 during Saturday's coronation held at Aquatic Manila Ocean Park.
Angela Lauren Fernando, a resident of Barangay San Roque Dau 1, bested 49 other candidates, four of whom came from other countries outside of the Philippines to bag the national beauty title.
Fernando, who is a 4th year Medical Technician student of the University Santo Tomas said that she felt overwhelmed after winning one of the five major titles which are Earth, Water, Air ,Fire, and Eco-Tourism.
She is the eldest of four children of proud parents Larry and Agnes Fernando.
Contestants in the competition participated in the cultural costume, swimsuit, long gown and question and answer portions.
Fernando who stands 5'7" with vital statistics 33-24-34 became a crowd’s favorite as she won three other awards including Miss Photogenic, Miss Ever Bilena, and best in cultural costume.
"I'm really thankful to my parents and friends for all the support and for Mat Basilio my designer, for making me the best cultural costume which was made of palay, corn hash and sampaguita flowers which are all products of our beloved town of Lubao and my handler John Dela Vega," she said.
The young beauty queen said that she wishes to promote the many tourism destinations in the province as well as the culinary delicacies and various cultural events found only in Pampanga.
Fernando also said that she is advocating for a clean environment and believes that with the collective efforts of all concerned individuals, organizations private and government, the task will be achievable.
She thanked the local government of Lubao, Carousel Productions and La Terraza Residential Estate and other sponsors for believing in her dream of making a difference and preserving Mother Earth for future generations. (Chris Navarro)
