Man nabbed for alleged murder

MABALACAT -- A 29-year-old man believed to be involved in a slaying case was apprehended by elements of the town police at the Mawaque Resettlement Center Tuesday.

Joven Orbie Canlas, 29, of Block 25 Lot 34 in the resettlement center, was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 59 in Angeles City.

Canlas has been tagged as no. 3 in this town’s list of wanted persons, according to Superintendent Elvis Diaz, town police chief.

The suspect was allegedly involved in the killing of Richard Bordon Chang on December 4, 2005.

His co-accused in the case is his elder brother, Jonathan.

Jonathan was immediately arrested after the incident but Joven was able to go into hiding, police said.

RTC Judge Maria Angelica Paras-Quiambao set no bail for Canlas, who is now under the custody of the local police, according to Diaz.

Mayor Marino Morales commended the town police for the arrest of the suspect.
