Mexico councilor to run for board member

MEXICO -- Councilor Trina Dizon recently expressed her intention to run for board member in next year's elections.

Dizon, who is presently the number one councilor in this town, said that aside from the usual plans for community development, she would be raising enough provincial legislations and programs for the protection and development of women and children.

"I believe that it is time to bring my political advocacies into the provincial level. The programs I have started in Mexico can become the basis of future provincial wide projects," she said.

Dizon has served as city councilor since 2001 and will complete her three terms in 2010. She is the chairperson of the committees on women and family, education and culture, youth and sports development, among others. Dizon is a member of Quota International Pampanga and Lady Local legislators.

"It's time to give women a chance in the governance of the third district," Dizon told Sun.Star Pampanga.

Quota International Past President and community leader Monina Laus said Dizon's bid for board member would give a refreshing twist to the political fight in 2010.

Dizon is set to face other aspirants for board member who include City of San Fernando Councilors Bernie Castro, Nelson Lingat, and Rolly Macalino. Board Members Johnny "JQ" Quiambao, Ceferino "Pinong" Laus and Karl Domingo are now occupying the three board member seats in the third district. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
