ANGELES CITY— Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno honored Tuesday the Angeles City athletes who won medals in the recently concluded Palaraong Pambansa games in Tarlac City last March.

Nepomuceno told Sun.Star Pampanga that the City Government recognizes the achievements of the young athletes in bringing honor and glory to the city. He said that the winnings only prove that Angeles City athletes are able to prove they are capable of making it to national and even international competitions.

“We are proud of these athletes and we in the city government will continue to support our sports program to better make our athletes ready for future competitions,” Nepomuceno said, stressing that financial incentives await winners in any sporting category.

Nepomuceno said that he expects more winnings in various sporting events as soon as the Angeles City Sports Complex is completed probably at the last quarter of this year. Nepomuceno said that a comprehensive sports program is also underway if he is given a fresh term as mayor of the city after the May 10 mayoralty polls here.

Winners in the Palarong Pambansa include Vince Salas who won in the Lawn Tennis competition bagging both gold medals in the individual and team categories. Vincent Jacob Nabong also won gold medals in the athletics competition on both individual and team categories.

Fernando Tacuyan also won a bronze medal in the boxing competition while Jeise Dionisio and Renee Ann Tayag, Angeles City’s representatives to the regional volleyball team, won bronze medals in the recent competition.

Sports Officer Paul Puri said that the athletes are thankful for Mayor Nepomuceno’s support. Puri said that Nepomuceno gave P2, 500 cash incentives to the volleyball and boxing game winners and another P10, 000 each to Nabong and Salas.

“This kind of support encourages our athletes to excel more in their respective fields. We are happy that the city government is giving us this much attention,” Puri told Sun.Star Pampanga.
