Editorial: Making a Comeback
-A A +AMonday, June 25, 2012
MANY have speculated months ago that the first city mayor, Dr. Rey Aquino, will make a comeback in the 2013 elections.
Well, speculate no more as Dr. Aquino had announced his intent to indeed run for the mayoralty post next year.
With this pronouncement, one can see that the former city mayor is determined to get back his old post. You could see it in his eyes.
During the recent press conference with local media, the former PhilHealth president and CEO even cracked jokes to show his versatility as a public figure.
Incumbent City Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, for his part, was quick to issue a “warning” to his fellow Fernandinos to be “cautious” of candidates in the next year’s polls, and to check on their credibility.
This move on the part of Rodriguez is not a surprise, all things considered, even though he won’t be facing Dr. Aquino one-on-one. The City Mayor merely wants to protect his constituents -- and Vice Mayor Edwin Santiago too, who is expected to continue his “Magsilbi Tamu” programs and projects.
Dr. Aquino’s comeback is somewhat expected, so no surprise there, too. But we’re sure the surprise is what he has up his sleeves… and we’ll find that out only when Dr. Aquino thinks the time is right.
He has, after all, not yet divulged who his running mate will be… and we all know of one who is available and up for grabs.
