Editorial: Time Out
-A A +AWednesday, September 5, 2012
TWO political camps have been bickering the past few weeks. People felt there would be no end to their squabbling.
But the death of transport leader Feliciano “Poncing” Ruiz Infante the other day put the conflict of City Mayor Ed Pamintuan and first district Representative Carmelo Lazatin at a timeout.
Both, of course, expressed abhorrence to the untimely death of Infante, who was the president of the Pampang-Pandan Jeepney Association and founding member of the Abe Kapampangan representing the transport sector.
He may have been one of Pamintuan’s leaders, but Lazatin lost no time in condoling with Infante’s family, and hoping that the perpetrators be put behind bars.
The police are actually looking into several angles – politics and robbery among them.
People could not help speculate though, that politics may have something to do with Infante’s killing. The timing couldn’t have been perfect for this supposition, with the 2013 elections but a few months away.
But there’s no discounting the possibility of other reasons behind his killing. We just hope the police look into these possibilities as soon as possible. There have been a number of killings in the province already, and people are getting restless.
