IT IS said that it is a natural law the son is born to trouble his father. Maybe true, maybe not. But what is really true is that a father will always be troubled if he sees his son or daughter competing.
How many times we feel so nervous when our son will take the stage and delivers a speech, and in front of a large audience at that? Maybe our hands are clasped in prayers that he commits no mistake and that an applause will receive him.
And in the forthcoming mid-term elections, there are so many fathers who will be nervous enough, so apprehensive, how their sons and daughters will fare in their respective pursuit of an elected posts.

Representative Carmelo Lazatin attempted in the past fielding his siblings in the past political contests. It was Jonjon in 1995, and he was in the tail end among the council bets. Then came neophyte Janet who made an unsuccessful run for congress against re-electionist Blueboy Nepomuceno. And Janet's dad, Congressman Tarzan Lazatin evened the score when he defeated Blueboy's son Gepoy in a congressional race.

In a political contest involving the siblings, it is their more known fathers who suffer more when there is defeat.
I remember Senator Lito Lapid when Mark Lapid, then the incumbent Provincial Capitol tenant suffered a loss in a three-way contest against Among Ed Panlilio and Lilia 'Baby' Pineda. The senator then, upon prodding of Malacanang challenged the well entrenched Jejomar Binay of Makati City. The senator abandoned his campaign in Makati and spent his money and time for his son. But Among Ed was in the heights of his popularity in that elections. He emerged as the victor.

Many people may be asking if in his hearts Mayor Boking Morales truly wish that his daughter Marjorie will go down in defeat in the latter's vice mayoral quest In this forthcoming mid-term elections. Is Mayor Morales developed what a song said 'pusong bato' that he wouldn't forget the pain brought by the 2010 elections where he was opposed no less by his own daughter Marjorie?

I chanced upon my friend Emil Pineda, husband of Liza, Mayor Morales running mate in the Mabalacat City mayoral race and queried him if he and the wife feel comfortable on the arrangement. Emil just gave me a Mona Lisa smile while shaking his head.

This time around in Angeles City, Congressman Tarzan Lazatin who is now opposing incumbent City Edgardo Pamintuan, has included in his four man council ticket his junior, more popularly known as Pogi. Pamintuan, in the meanwhile, had his son in his ticket son Atty. Edu who is running for re-election.

No problem for husband and wife Bong and Governor Baby Pineda. Their daughter Mylene is running unopposed in their hometown of Lubao, while daughter-in-law Yolanda will easily demolished any opposition in Sta. Rita town.

These young politicians are lucky indeed that they have their popular parents to guide them in their political journeys. They only won't inherit the saved finances of the parents, but their names as well.
