TOMORROW, men and women of the Laus Group’s dwRW 95.1 FM and CLTV-36 and members of the Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) Pampanga Chapter led by veteran broadcaster Perry Pangan will be undertaking their third annual tree-planting activity along the riverbanks of Barangays Apalit and Consuelo in the town Floridablanca.
Dubbed as "Broadcastreeing", the yearly event is worthy of being lauded as it promotes the people’s awareness and their role in taking care of our environment.
The activity will cover more than a kilometer stretch of riverbanks of bamboo shoots. Bamboos are known to help in preventing soil erosion as their roots hold the earth where they are planted.
They are easy to grow and are effective tools in vegetating slopes of waterways and eventually help in subsequent flooding by protecting riverbanks from being eroded.
Broadcastreeing, meanwhile, is the KBP’s response to the government’s National Greening Program (NGP) that is aimed at making the Philippines an environment-friendly country. The NGP encourages Filipinos to plant at least 10 seedlings within the next six years to have a million newly planted trees in the years ahead.
Worthy to mention are the different entities from the government and private sector who are joining the event such as Jollibee Foods Corporation, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, the Department of the Interior Local Government, Bureau of Fire Protection, local government officials and other volunteers who will troop to Floridablanca to plant bamboos.
Now on its third year, the first Broadcastreeing activity was held in Mexico town last 2011. Last year, the activity was held along the embankment of the Megadike.
Caring for the environment is everybody’s concern. It’s good that we have such groups that help in preserving our earth. There are at least people who care for our future generations’ environment.
Supporting "Broadcastreeing" is a one small way of sharing for the environment.
